Whether taking one of her intense work-out classes, or working
with her through extremely difficult medical issues, it rapidly
becomes apparent that Patricia Moreno is a
unique and incredibly positive person. I have had
the good fortune to get to know her quite well in both circumstances. Patricia
is now in the advanced stages of pregnancy after going through
extensive fertility treatments over a long period of time. Although
the journey was not always easy, and at times was quite difficult,
she never lost faith and belief that she would ultimately achieve
success. Even in the face of negative results, Patricia
would always find a way to put a positive spin on the circumstance. This
made the process of treating her much easier and inevitably
contributed to her ultimate success.
Her work-out classes are unique. They are high energy cardiovascular work-outs
and she leads the class with multiple affirmations of belief in self, success,
creating a life of abundance and inner peace. There are many physiologic
reasons why this approach is successful. It is obvious that the students
love the class!
I recently read Patricia’s book: The intensati
Method – The
Seven Principles to Thinner Peace. It
is filled with numerous positive affirmations, fitness and
nutritional advice. The book helps instill
a sense of mind-body awareness and mindfulness which is so
important when trying to lose weight, improve fitness and
create a positive destiny.
Patricia Moreno is an engaging, uplifting, creative and generous
person. Anyone
who is serious about achieving a positive destiny for their
life should try to learn from her approach and methods.

I am an intenSati junkie.
It was because of my love of intenSati that I became interested in the effects of exercise and, in particular, intenSati on the brain. This happened about 3 years ago after I had become a regular intenSati practitioner and noticed how much more alert and effective I was at work (especially writing) when I went to class. This observation got me interested in exploring the growing neuroscience literature on the effects of exercise on the brain. For example, there is strong evidence that exercise can enhance the birth of new brain cells in a part of the brain important for long-term memory called the hippocampus. To test the effect of intenSati on memory/hippocampal function directly, I developed and taught a new undergraduate course at NYU in the fall semester of 2009 called “Can Exercise Change Your Brain?” For this class, I tested the students in this class and a “control” class that did not exercise on a series of cognitive and memory tests at the beginning and at the end of the semester. Each class session started with an hour intenSati workout that I taught followed by 90 minutes of lecture and discussion on the effects of exercise on the brain. At the end of the class, the students had the opportunity to analyze the data from their class and the control class as part of their final term paper. They found that the students in the exercising class got significantly better on a particular recognition memory task compared to the control class.
These new findings are very exciting and suggest that even a semester of increased aerobic activity can change memory function in college age students. However, many more interesting questions remain. For example, what aspect of the intenSati workout is critical for the improvement that we saw? Was it the high cardio exercise alone, the paired affirmations the motivational aspect of the class or a combination of all these elements? These are all questions that we can address experimentally and that I will be addressing in future studies at NYU.

I remember the day...
I walked into Equinox 19th Street and jumped on a treadmill, running and cheating my way through my self-assigned 20 minutes. I got my pace going and I decided that it was just not
working. It was a waste of time. I walked to the fitness schedule and saw the next class was something called intenSati. No clue what that was, I asked the front desk to describe the class. They said
it was like 'yoga and kickboxing fused together." I had no interest
in either, but I decided to jump in.
At first I was very quiet, surrounded by fit people declaring affirmations while grinding through an intense cardio and conditioning workout. I didn’t buy in at first but really enjoyed the work out. No cheating in there. Then one day, I started to speak affirmations as I did the exercises.
Weeks later I started to believe it. Within a year I was living it. It was like someone hit the reset button and taught me that you cannot be a leader to others if you cannot lead yourself.
Patricia and her practice taught me to live intentionally. Life is not something that is spontaneously secreted by our bodies, it is something we create, like a statue out of a block of marble. That feeling of anxiety you feel when it gets hard in any workout is similar to the feeling when life gets tough. Patricia taught me to embrace that place and, to seek it out rather than run away from it and then to flip it to my advantage. This is where creation happens. Syncing my inner strength to my body, I am in the best shape of my life and see no more limits to what I can do both physically, emotionally, or professionally. Learning stillness of mind with a real lust for life has taught me that I can handle and really sculpt my life into the vision that I hold.
Like Patricia says..the way you do this practice is the way you do everything. I took this to heart and threw the same gusto into my research, patient care, and career aspirations that I do in the intenSati practice. After personally learning this lesson of self-engagement, I use many of the principles she has taught me to my patients. Like life, health is not an accident. It is something you can control and mold. Weather it is losing weight, managing chronic illness, or controling addiction, the intenSati method has become a part of my philosophy of caring for patients and creating ground-breaking prevention projects for New York City and beyond.
Syncing your motivation to your action is a powerful tool that Patricia Moreno has fashioned into a program full of life and joy! I live my life in a body I love in the front row...not the back...declaring my intention to live to the extreme.

IntenSati is a richly rewarding, self-empowering program of change that is both extremely motivating-- and one of the best workouts I’ve ever had! As a psychologist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, I see how people can get stuck in unrewarding and unhealthy patterns. Being able to refer my patients to work with Patricia and theiIntenSati training is a gift both to me and to anyone who takes the classes. Patricia Moreno is one of the most inspiring people I know. Her work and the IntenSati program allows anyone involved the possibility of realizing one’s potential and taking charge of one’s life. As a psychologist—and as a participant - I cannot recommend Patricia and intenSati highly enough!
